Race and the Transformation of Long Beach. 2007
Several student leaders from Californians for Justice joined with Daniel HoSang, a local humanities expert, to explore the stories of civil rights activism and organizing during the last fifty years in Long Beach. They compared the experiences of civil rights “pioneers” with those of young activists today.
The video highlights the stories of four civil rights leaders in Long Beach: Luisa Crespo, Woody Nichols, Evelyn Knight, and Ra Pok. Each of their stories is a piece of the larger story of race and the transformation of Long Beach.
“Race and the Transformation of Long Beach” is a project of Californians for Justice funded by the California Council for the Humanities and the California Consumer Protection Foundation. Race and Transformation.mp4 [68mb]
